Ian Cataluna is a student in the class of 2023 studying Public Health and Psychology at Johns Hopkins University. He was raised on the 12-mile island of Saipan, a U.S. territory located in the Pacific. Because of his island upbringing, Ian is passionate about addressing institutional and systemic problems within underserved communities, examining them from a public health lens. As a junior at Marianas High School, Ian started the STEM and Pre-Medicine Clubs which provided educational and volunteering opportunities for under-resourced students. Some of his previous involvements and achievements include his participation at the MIT Online Science, Technology, and Engineering Community (MOSTEC) and a member of a winning team for the Congressional App Challenge. At Johns Hopkins, Ian currently holds director positions for the TEDxJHU chapter and Inter-Asian Council and is a member of the Johns Hopkins Underrepresented in Medicine Association (JUMP). In the future, he hopes to pursue a career in healthcare consulting and eventually receive his MD/MPH to better serve communities with inequitable healthcare access.
